Cebu Province and Cebu City officials oppose a move of the national government to place Cebu province and Cebu City on a lockdown status due to rise of Covid Delta variant cases.

Acting Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan are one with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and the municipal and city mayors in the Province of Cebu in opposing the imposition of lockdowns in Cebu Island.

Cebu officials including the regional directors who are members of the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force are united to have ‘one voice’ and that is to ask the national IATF to reconsider the downgrading of the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Rama suggested that they, the tri-cities and Cebu Province, put the agreement on paper to seal their commitment to ‘move’ and decide on policies as ‘one island’. | via #SugboNews2021 (Eleanor Valeros/Photo: Tonee Despojo)
