Vice President Sara Duterte Lauds Liloan for Tourism Advocacy, Launches Education and Environment Initiatives
Liloan, Cebu – Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday evening lauded the municipal government of Liloan for making local tourism a priority advocacy to support the growth of local entrepreneurs, particularly those involved in the production of delicacies and cuisines.
Duterte was in Liloan to join the celebration of the Rosquillos Festival 2023 at the Liloan Central School Grounds. The festival, which is known for its famous Rosquillos delicacy, depicts the Liloanon’s drive to preserve and continue the unique tradition of the town.
“This is a celebration of your unity, sacrifices, and efforts as community,” Duterte said in Cebuano.
During her speech, Duterte also shared the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) Medical and Burial Assistance (MAB) assistance project, and its availability in this province through the OVP Cebu Satellite Office in Mandaue City. Medical and burial assistance are among the social services implemented by the OVP.
Acknowledging the importance of livelihood in sustaining a family’s day-to-day needs, Duterte also shared the OVP’s Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day (MTD) project, which helps women and members of the LGBTQI+ by augmenting their daily income, making them economically empowered and independent. The MTD was one of Duterte’s many flagship projects when she was still mayor of Davao City. The OVP has adopted the project for nationwide implementation.
Duterte, who is also Education Secretary, also called on parents to make sure that their children are in school, and protect them from criminality, drugs, insurgency, and terrorism that may destroy their dreams and their future.
“I call on to everyone present here to make sure that our children attend school, have proper access to education, and for them to finish their studies,” Duterte said.
Before the event, Duterte led the launching of the “PagbaBAGo: A Million Learners and Trees” at the Mandaue City Sports Complex. The initiative intends to provide students with one million bags containing school supplies and dental kits, plant one million trees for environmental sustainability, and promote family planning among parents.
She also attended the grand opening of the Liloan’s first Smart Port, Pier 88, that offers convenient and modern services for the commuters.
