In the wake of an impending transport strike by two prominent transport groups, Manibela and Piston, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that the number coding scheme will remain in effect this coming Monday, April 15, 2024.
Despite the anticipated disruption, the MMDA has confirmed that vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 will not be permitted to travel during peak hours, from 7am to 10am and 5pm to 8pm, as part of the ongoing traffic decongestion program.
The decision comes as a response to the planned ‘tigil pasada’ or transport halt, which aims to draw attention to various issues faced by local transport groups. The MMDA, along with other government agencies and local government units in the National Capital Region (NCR), is prepared to offer free rides to commuters who may be affected by the strike.
This move by the MMDA underscores the agency’s commitment to maintaining order and minimizing traffic congestion in the metro, even amidst potential disruptions. Commuters are advised to plan their travels accordingly and stay informed about the available transportation alternatives provided by the authorities.
