LOS BAÑOS, Philippines — The first Asia-Pacific Young Farmers Camp and Agrilympics will bring 120 young agricultural workers from 20 countries to the University of the Philippines Los Baños on Aug. 12-16.
Organizers say the event aims to promote sustainable agriculture, foster innovation and highlight farming as a viable career path.
Participants will include farmers, fishers, pastoralists and forest users from across Asia and the Pacific. They will compete in agriculture-themed games, attend workshops on topics like digital agriculture and organic farming, and pitch ideas for agricultural development.
The Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development, International Cooperative Alliance-Asia Pacific and Pacific Farmers Organisation are organizing the camp.
Organizers hope to address declining interest in farming among younger generations and the impacts of climate change on agriculture. The event seeks to encourage youth participation in agricultural organizations and showcase innovative farming initiatives.
Activities will include a parade of nations, hands-on workshops and networking opportunities. Some participants may receive support from institutional partners for their agricultural project pitches.
