Tereso Panga, a University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) Distinguished Alumni Awardee and director general of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), launched a new vessel built by Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu), Inc. (THICI) in Balamban, Cebu, on Aug. 28, 2024.
University of the Philippines Alumni Association President Robert Aranton, who also serves on the PEZA Board representing the private sector and investors, attended the milestone event.
The launch shows UPAA’s efforts to bridge the gap between academia and industry, officials said.
Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu), Inc., a leading shipbuilding company, demonstrates the Philippines’ growing maritime capabilities.
The vessel, a product of Filipino engineering and craftsmanship, set sail after the launch, defining a historic achievement for the country’s shipbuilding industry.
