Passenger arrested at Manila airport for harassing airline staff

Manila, Philippines – A departing passenger was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 after allegedly harassing an airline supervisor who had asked for valid identification, aviation authorities said Wednesday.

The incident occurred on May 14 at Boarding Gate 7, where the passenger reportedly reacted aggressively when asked to comply with standard security procedures, tapping the supervisor’s arm and making loud, inappropriate remarks.

Police from NAIA’s Station 2 responded after being alerted by airline security personnel. A preliminary inquiry was conducted, and both parties were brought to the station for further investigation.

Authorities said mediation efforts failed, prompting the complainant to press charges. The passenger was then arrested and informed of his constitutional rights, with the process recorded using an alternative recording device.

The suspect underwent inquest proceedings the following day for unjust vexation and remains in police custody.

“The PNP Aviation Security Group is committed to maintaining peace, order and respect in all aviation facilities,” said AVSEGROUP Director Brigadier General Christopher Abecia. “We will act swiftly and decisively against any form of harassment or misconduct.”
