2 Dead in LTO-CIDG Shooting in Dinagat Islands

SAN JOSE, DINAGAT ISLANDS — A member of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and a Land Transportation Office (LTO) employee were killed in a shootout early Thursday morning, August 7, 2025 in Barangay Sta. Cruz.

Police identified the slain CIDG officer as Patrolman Ferry Sida Jaso, 29, a resident of Mainit, Surigao del Norte. The suspect was identified as Anjun Casador, an LTO casual employee from Purok-1, Barangay Sta. Cruz.

According to the San Jose Municipal Police Station, the shooting occurred at around 3:35 a.m. while the CIDG was conducting surveillance on Casador.

Authorities said Casador suddenly pulled out a firearm and shot Jaso in the head, killing him instantly.

Jaso’s backup, Patrolman Leonel Estroso, 31, returned fire and shot Casador in what police described as an act of self-defense. Casador also died at the scene.

Estroso is now in police custody as the investigation continues.
