MANILA – A mother’s desperate plea for medical attention for her feverish child has sparked outrage and raised questions about patient care at Ospital ng Maynila.
On June 27, 2024, shortly after midnight, a woman rushed her young child to the hospital’s emergency room with a dangerously high fever of 40°C.
According to the mother’s account, despite the child’s critical condition, they were made to wait over four hours without receiving medical attention.
The situation allegedly escalated when the child began convulsing.
The mother claims that upon seeking urgent help, she was met with hostility from both a doctor and a nurse. The confrontation reportedly turned heated, with raised voices on both sides.
“I felt a mix of worry, exhaustion, and a sense that my child’s life didn’t matter to them,” the distraught mother stated in Filipino. She attempted to livestream the incident but was stopped by security guards citing hospital policies.
The incident has ignited a debate on social media about emergency room protocols and patient rights.
Many netizens have expressed support for the mother, while others caution against rushing to judgment without hearing the hospital’s side of the story.
Ospital ng Maynila has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
However, this event has highlighted ongoing concerns about overcrowding and long wait times in public hospital emergency rooms across Metro Manila.
The Department of Health (DOH) is expected to look into the matter as calls for an investigation grow louder on social media platforms.
