BANTAYAN – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has ordered the demolition of a wharf that was built illegally on an easement zone in Barangay Baigad.
The wharf, owned by the Escario family and known as Baigad Wharf, was found to have violated environmental laws by encroaching on the foreshore and easement zones where no structures are allowed.
Garcia issued memorandum no. 4-2023 on March 7, 2023 directing the Municipality of Bantayan, Philippine National Police (PNP), Rovilla Construction and other concerned parties to demolish Baigad Wharf immediately.
She also personally supervised the demolition operation today along with local officials and PNP personnel.
Garcia said she wanted to send a clear message that her administration will not tolerate any violations of environmental laws and will protect the natural resources of Cebu province.
