    Renowned British singer Engelbert Humperdinck made a surprise visit to Siquijor, the mystical island province in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines, on August 26, 2023.

    The iconic balladeer, who is preparing for another global tour, said he wanted to experience the natural beauty and rich culture of the island before his upcoming concerts in Manila on September 9 and 10.

    Humperdinck, who has become a frequent visitor to Manila, arrived in Siquijor by ferry from Dumaguete City.

    He was welcomed by local officials and fans who greeted him with leis and banners.

    He then toured some of the island’s attractions, such as the century-old churches, the Cambugahay Falls, and the Salagdoong Beach. He also met some of the island’s famous healers, who brew traditional ointments for modern ailments.

    The 87-year-old Humperdinck said he was amazed by the charm and hospitality of Siquijor. He said he felt a connection with the island, which is also known as the “Island of Fire” because of its history of witchcraft and the unknown¹. He said he hoped to return to Siquijor someday and maybe even perform there.

    Humperdinck, who has sold more than 140 million records worldwide, is one of the most beloved singers of the 1960s and 1970s. He earned the endearing moniker “King of Romance” for his hits like “Release Me,” “Quando Quando Quando,” and “Spanish Eyes.” He is also known for his collaborations with othver artists, such as Elton John, Willie Nelson, and Andrea Bocelli.

    Humperdinck’s fans in Manila are eagerly awaiting his concerts at the Araneta Coliseum on September 9 and 10. The shows are part of his “The Angel on My Shoulder Tour,” which will also take him to other countries in Asia, Europe, and North America.
