The Davao City Library and Information Center (CLIC) is not your ordinary public library. It is a library of the future, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and innovative features that aim to provide a conducive and enjoyable learning environment for its patrons.
The CLIC, which opened its doors to the public on July 14, 2022, is a modern four-story building that houses various sections and facilities for different types of users and needs. It has a children’s section, a young adult section, a general reference section, a Filipiniana section, a special collections section, a multimedia section, an e-learning center, a conference room, an auditorium, and a café.
The library boasts of having over 100,000 books, 10,000 e-books, 5,000 audio-visual materials, and 500 periodicals in its collection. It also has access to online databases and journals through its subscription to the Philippine e-Lib project. The library uses the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system for its circulation and inventory management. Users can borrow and return books using self-service kiosks that scan their library cards and the RFID tags on the books.
One of the most impressive features of the CLIC is its interactive wall, which is a large touch-screen display that allows users to browse the library catalog, view maps and directions, play educational games, watch videos, and even take selfies. The interactive wall also serves as a digital bulletin board that showcases the library’s events and activities.
Another innovative feature of the CLIC is its smart lockers, which are electronic lockers that can be rented by users for storing their personal belongings while using the library. Users can reserve and pay for the lockers using their smartphones or the library’s website. The lockers can be opened and closed using QR codes or facial recognition.
The CLIC also has a mobile app that users can download to access the library’s services and resources anytime and anywhere. The app allows users to search the library catalog, reserve books, renew loans, check their account status, view their reading history, get recommendations, join online book clubs, chat with librarians, and more.
The CLIC is not only a library of the future but also a library for the future. It aims to promote literacy, lifelong learning, cultural diversity, social inclusion, and civic engagement among its users. It also strives to support the local community by providing programs and activities that cater to their interests and needs.
The CLIC is open from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. It is located at San Pedro Street corner Quirino Avenue in Davao City. It is free and open to everyone who wants to experience a library of the future. For more information about the CLIC, visit its website or follow its Facebook page.
