MANILA, Philippines – In celebration of the 31st National Family Week, Malacañang has ordered the suspension of work in all government offices under the Executive branch from 3 p.m. onwards on Monday, September 25, 2023.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin issued Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 32 on Thursday, September 28, 2023 to give government workers and their families time to participate in the Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day, which is part of the Family Week activities.
“This Office also encourages all government workers in the Executive branch to fully support the programs and activities relative to the observance of Family Week, as organized by the National Committee on the Filipino Family,” the memo read.
The memo also urged other branches of government, independent commissions or bodies, and the private sector to suspend work on Monday afternoon, “so as to afford all Filipino families the full opportunity to celebrate the 31st National Family Week.”
However, the memo said that agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness, response to disasters and calamities, and the performance of other vital services shall continue their operations and render the necessary services.
The Family Week is observed every last week of September pursuant to Proclamation No. 60 (s. 1991), which aims to strengthen family unity and enhance Filipino values. The Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day is a special day when families are encouraged to eat together at home and share their experiences. It was declared by Proclamation No. 326 (s. 2012).
