    In a remarkable display of underwater exploration, the Philippine International Dive Expo (PHIDEX) brought together diving aficionados for a post-tour expedition in the stunning Sogod Bay, Southern Leyte. From February 26 to March 1, 2024, participants delved into the bay’s depths, renowned for its breathtaking natural landscapes and teeming marine biodiversity.

    The expedition’s itinerary was a coastal tour de force, featuring the municipalities of Padre Burgos, Limasawa, Malitbog, Tomas Oppus, Bontoc, Sogod, Libagon, Liloan, San Francisco, Pintuyan, and San Ricardo. These areas are celebrated for their picturesque settings and ecological significance.

    PHIDEX’s initiative went beyond mere exploration; it fostered meaningful connections with local tourism stakeholders. This collaboration aimed to bolster sustainable tourism practices that nurture the environment while benefiting local communities.

    The event underscored PHIDEX’s dedication to positioning the Philippines as a top-tier diving destination, committed to the conservation of its natural heritage for future generations.

    The expedition saw the participation of notable figures such as Jasmin Langhammer from AQUAVENTURE TAUCHREISEN GMBH in Germany, Jongsub Park representing BSAC KOREA/KDEC Korea, and Cannes Festival awardee filmmaker Oshim Somers.

    Key proponents of dive tourism in Southern Leyte, Phil and Darlene McGuire of Sogod Bay Scuba Resort, along with Gunther and Alona Mosch of Southern Leyte Divers, were instrumental in the event’s success, showcasing the collaborative spirit that defines the region’s approach to marine exploration and preservation.
