    IMPROVEMENT OF ROADS TO BOOST TOURISM, LOCAL INDUSTRY IN QUIRINO

    The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the completion of two (2) road projects in Maddela, Quirino aimed to support agricultural and tourism in potential areas.

    Citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 2, Secretary Roger G. Mercardo said that the ongoing construction of the Divisoria Sur – San Salvador – Dungo Road in Maddela and Aglipay, Quirino will provide faster delivery of agricultural crops to farm-based food processing facilities that produce banana chips, feeds, muscovado sugar, and sugar cane juice.

    According to Region 2 Director Loreta Malaluan, the 1.2-kilometer access road is a multi-year project funded under the DPWH – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Roads Leveraging Linkages of Industry and Trade (ROLL IT) Convergence Program identified to support trade and provide livelihood opportunities for Cagayanos.

    A 6-kilometer road upgrading from gravel to paved is also being undertaken by DPWH Quirino District Engineering Office to provide tourists with better travel experience going to the famous Governor’s Rapids in Maddela. Now 68.82 percent complete, the ongoing improvement of road to Governor’s Rapids prioritized under the DPWH – Department of Tourism Convergence Program is expected to attract more tourists and create more jobs for the locals.
