The University of Santo Tomas (UST), the oldest and largest Catholic university in the Philippines, has opened its first campus in Visayas and Mindanao, UST-GenSan, in September 2023. UST-GenSan is an extension campus of the UST in Manila, which was founded in 1611 by the Dominican Order.
UST-GenSan is located in Brgy. Ligaya, General Santos City, on a 76.78-hectare land area donated by the city government. The campus will offer undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields of study, such as arts and letters, education, engineering, health sciences, law, and theology.
The campus will have a chapel, library, clinic, org rooms, an auditorium, function halls, a football pitch, and an athletics oval. The main building, which will house the administrative offices and classrooms, is expected to be completed in 2023. The construction of the campus is part of the UST’s vision to expand its academic excellence and service to other regions of the country.
UST-GenSan is expected to attract students from the nearby provinces of South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, and Davao del Sur. The campus will also provide scholarships and financial assistance to deserving students who wish to pursue quality education in a Catholic institution.
UST-GenSan aims to uphold the core values of UST: competence, commitment, and compassion. The campus will also promote the culture and heritage of Mindanao through various activities and programs. UST-GenSan hopes to contribute to the development and peace of Mindanao and the whole country.
